Description
I took this picture of Southport Beach from the pier one of the longest piers in the country spanning across the Marine Lake, Kings Garden, Ocean Plaza Complex, the costal Road and quite a way across the beach up to the sea...a sea that has a reputation of not being seen often. The view is of the main front of Southport's skyline and the North of Southport towards the Town Golf course on fairways and then Marshside were the RSPB bird sanctuary is to the left of picture. Southport is a vast coastline and covers towards the South, Birkdale, Hillside and Ainsdale beaches and continues on to Formby and Freshfield Beaches a vast amount of dunes can be see in these areas.....whereas Southport itself has no dunes as they were removed throughout the 1980's up until now...Southport is below sea level and used to flood in bad weather when the tides where high, a time when the sea returned with a vengeance, because of this sea defences were built, there is a sea wall all along Southports main beach. In this photo you can see the tide estuaries as glints of blue along the sands as it stretches out towards Marshside
