Description
Southport town Hall and the newly refurbished Atkinson centre today and in Victorian times, a truly sensitive refurb as it looks more or less the same, I put these pictures together, I discovered the older one from the history of Southport, a Victorian seaside town, after I had taken the photo of the recent one..same view and virtually the same time on the tower clock, so I put the 2 images together to compare and for people to see the outstanding restoration done on this building over 3 years without spoiling any of its exterior which faces the famous Lord Street high street in Southport town centre.. The inside was completely different in many ways but some original features were replaced that had been removed in the past and they've made it more open plan disable friendly, only one entrance out of the many entrances are now open for the public to enter the Atkinson building that contains a library, art gallery, theatre, studios, cafe and gift shop, there is also a tourist info desk.
