This is the purple version called Mermaid of memories of the mermaid legend at New Brighton that is part of the mermaid trail project, this one is placed on the promenade not far from the Floral Pavilion and the famous ancient napoleonic fort is seen as a backdrop.The inspiration behind the project is the ‘Black Rock Mermaid, who was said to have appeared to a local sailor, John Robinson, in New Brighton in the 18th century.
Local notes: Pupils from St George’s Primary School are responsible for the ‘Mermaid of Memories’, the fifth statue on the trail. Situated on the promenade opposite the Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre, the pupils have sought through their decoration to take people on a journey back in time to a dark yet glowing evening at New Brighton fairground.
I am an artist and photographer I studied art in both Liverpool and Southport, I have works in acrylics, pastel, pencil, pen, ceramics, watercolours and photography, my work varies from portraits to landscapes abstract and still life, in both art and photography. I also use mixed media mixing some of my hand painted and sketched art with digital media and I have floral works in photography and digital designs. I have had my works at many exhibitions and know some other artists. I live in Southport and most of my work is accomplished there. I also write poetry and illustrate them.
