Description
Whitby Harbour and fishing port on a very sunny day last week one of the sunniest days this year, a lovely resort with a beach one side and a Harbour the other side...the boats are quietly Mooring and the streets are busy with tourists, a beautiful town with an abbey on the hill in the distance that has 199 stone steps leading up to the Abbey and a swing bridge leading to the other side. Whitby Harbour is a natural Harbour on the estuary of the River Esk with the River Tees and the River Humber on each side. Whitby is a fishing port and was once one of the most important shipyards in the country were the tall ship the Endeavour was built and from where Captain Cook sailed to Australia, the Harbour has a long history and on the other side there is a lighthouse with a lovely beach resort, of which I never visited as I only had a short time in the port whilst on a coach tour of the surrounding areas whilst staying in Scarborough
