Description
This idea was to try out Leonardo da Vinci's style in portraiture with the slight smile and the landscaped background of the Mona Lisa with Hesketh Park as the intended landscape for the project. Jillian did look like a fairer version of the Mona Lisa and doing a male version of this iconic portrait style with Justin worked well too. I love the eyes, and I did it with my own child models, my children, and watercolour, a difficult medium with precision of this subject as most people apply it loosely, as I did with the background but not with the portrait, a mistake is not affordable as that cannot be corrected with this medium. I used fine brush strokes for my daughter's natural light auburn hair with a sable brush. The children did sit for me for these portraits at home, as I added the landscape after from photos working out the prospective aspect of their size and pose, a difficult task. I used to do my art to the full in those days, maybe the 1980's was my best time in art when I was really serious about it and had exhibitions, even having a few articles in the Local newspapers, also a slight appearance on TV with Martin Henfield's show and painting competition; the work shown then was my portrait of Lowry, a contemporary creation, called Lowry's painting suit, I even painted some of his matchstalk men in that painting 🌟
