I loved Pierre's lovely Tulips when I first saw them, when my mother showed me some of his work, I had to paint them; so this is a copy done my way as a watercolour and ink sketch. I used a colour wash in bright blue likened as a sky for the background rather than the lovely green landscape and pale blue cloudy sky of the original work by Redoute. I found it leaned towards an abstract feel and that was my intention to do that with this work.
Pierre-Joseph Redoute(1759 -1840), was a painter and botanist from the Southern Netherlands, known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers and fantastic tulips such as these at the Chateau de Malmaison. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers". He was an official court artist of Queen Marie Antoinette. I hope you like my interpretation of this great man's work. Maybe these tulips are from Amsterdam with Redoute being A Dutch man I love the way he paints in the duo and tri colours forming their patterns into bright coloured filigree along the tulips beautiful petals, I copied each pattern on these very precise and true to the original work in my own style I love the black and white and how it stands out of the bunch
