Description
I did this watercolour portrait in 1985 and was about to upload it on here, I had it ready in my upload folder to do just that...calling it Transient...but since he, David Bowie, died other notes have been added that seem to fit this work well, it has to be classed now as inspirational and spiritual expressionist artwork, art in memory of David Bowie.
A transient type of man was and is David Bowie and this is my work of art to portray that. This is a transient portrayal, meaning to never stay in a mode or situation or character for long, this transient was from Starman and life on Mars, space Oddity, major Tom as it is David turning the other way with his back to all those emerging colours of his performance and artistic creativity with a change towards a more conventional and colourless way of his artistry, therefore this is a transformation that took place after Aladdin Sane and the portrait is from that iconic image with his eyes closed or are they sleeping or deep in thought, this is without the flash of colour across his face but on a more sombre note, also the darker hair of the slim white duke has formed:
I think, he had found what he was looking for in Berlin: quietness, inspiration and new ideas. Bowie just moved on after that, following new ideas for his career, and he never really returned to the Starman image, also the star to the left of picture is a reminder of this and a never forgotten Starman that he is and as he died there was the colour behind him again as he fell to earth as a dying man but never forgot his fans leaving them a Black Star with an album as a requiem to his musical memory with eyes gently closed as if sleeping as he leaves us for that other world beyond free of his pain. In this version I have placed a Starman title poster style with a few extra stars and border. I also darkened the colour a wee bit to add more contrast to the overall picture as David will always be our starman in many ways:
This is Major Tom to Ground Control,
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
