Description
A favourite picnic spot on one of the hilltops at Hesketh park in Southport, as you walk along this hill you come between 2 trees and a beautiful view of the park, footpath and lake are revealed, directly in front of you there is another tree that appears to have 3 trunks which looked unusual and spectacular at the same instance...so the children claimed it as their wishing tree; I was quite touched by this and went along with them making wishes myself, I also wrote a poem:
See, see the wishing tree,
this wish for you and one for me.
See, see the wishing tree,
see my love pour over thee.
This is just the first stanza of the poem, I will add the rest later.
This hill and beautiful view are now gone when the park was renovated and redesigned a few years ago. I painted this picture whilst sat on the hill enjoying a picnic during late spring 1986 and a cute little rabbit scampered past me, I captured it as I painted to add to the scene, a unique and beautiful scene, captured, even though long gone, in my painting as a forever memory of days gone by. The children are grown up now, I wonder if they remember their wishing tree.
