Description
A footpath along the Cliff at Lynton in Exmoor in North Devon leading to and from The village down to the valley of rocks and Lynmouth, the sign that's pointing to the descension to Lynmouth below the cliff is not really valid due to the floods of 1952 but is still there to point the way to this cove even though there is no way down to it except for the use of a cliff rail car that leaves from the village town centre under the bridge down to Lynmouth, this rail car has been put there to replace the cliff foot path that was destroyed in 1952, the railings in picture are what's left of the ascension to the pathway and to prevent people from walking down also to keep it safe when looking at the view of Lynmouth below. A lovely old signpost looked after and lovingly restored, matching the large vertical trees growing besides it. You will eventually get to Lynmouth if you walk along the Cliff path towards the Valley of Rocks, but it's quite a long walk.

A super picture Joan-Violet and very interesting notes. I remember the floods of '52. I was staying with my grandparents in Totnes and the Western Morning News was full of it. I was about 8 at the time but it left a lasting impression on me.

Thankyou so much Lesley for your great comments, I too remember it as my parents being saddened by this, as Londoners that moved up North during the war, they spent many a summer in Cornwall and Devon during their childhood.
