Description
I took a walk through the lovely autumn woods in Chorley recently called simply, The Copse, and came across this very tall mature beech tree, it was beautiful with the sunshine casting its rays down onto it looking like splashes of gold. It is believed that this tree is 400 years old and was part of the original woodland that Euxton and Chorley once were before they were built on. There is a conservation order on the ancient woodland in Chorley and this is constantly under threat, the latest being a community centre plans being submitted...surely the community of picnics and walks in the woodland are far better; there is a brook going through the woods that is dried up most of the time, with quaint little bridges going over it. When there is heavy rainfall this little brook comes to life and takes the flood waters away from the built up areas towns and villages to the River Chor and is an essential and necessary part of the land in that area. When I stroll through these woods, they look so enchanting, like an enchanted wood of long ago..
