Description
I did this portrait of my favourite band, The Moody Blues, in 1994 after being very ill...I really indulged myself into this portrait and gained an exceptional piece that's almost life like, I surprised myself, I used fine grain watercolour paper as the surface and I outlined the black parts first in Indian ink then coloured it after the ink had dried, with washes on the shirts and detail on the faces, being waterproof Indian ink is ideal for this technique of over painting with transparent watercolours. The line up in this picture includes Patrick Moraz who replaced Mike Pinder on keys during that time from the band Yes, at the front is their drummer Greame Edge and Next to him bassist John Lodge who takes lead vocals on some tracks next to him is Ray Thomas the flautist who played such heavenly notes on Nights in White Satin he's not with the band now nor is Patrick. The lead vocalist Justin Hayward is at the back with his unmistakable blonde hair the one with that voice I love how I've captured them all, it's not often I do a group portrait and it is rather difficult needs such a lot of concentration I did a back wash in blue and black I love it. Looks great on all surfaces and accessories I've chosen a default background colour of blue in the accessories and greeting cards for fitting well into the frame, you can change if you prefer a different colour by moving the slider and selecting another colour.
Added today Jan 18 2018 in memory of Ray Thomas who passed away last week.
Ray was a founder member of The band and retired in 2002 and was responsible for the brilliant flute playing On Nights in White Satin and Timothy Leary, and the Voyage from Threshold of a Dream. RIP Ray, his flute playing was magic. Added today Nov 11 2021 Greame Edge the iconic drummer and poet of the band past away today aged 80 his drumming was the heartbeat of the band and without him there is no Moody Blues RIP dear Greame we have our memories and great recordings of the band and their honour in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Justin Hayward and John Lodge have their own solo bands now and play Moody Blues songs and hits in their sets, its worth going to one of their concerts you wont be disappointed
