Description
This little Public House has always been in Mathew Street and the Beatles used to stop off for a drink there on their way to the Cavern Club ready to play the night away. The Cavern never served any alcoholic drinks in those days, but had great coke on tap, it was the best coke I ever tasted, they also served food later on cooked by a chef who had a restaurant in Duke Street, I remember the hamburgers and chips very well, there was none like it since...later on around 1967 they introduced a bar and the younger club members couldnt go to the club after that. The Grapes was the stop off point for most bands before going to the Cavern in those days...it's not changed much inside, lots of Beatles pictures on the wall now, they still only serve small bottles of wine though and they do Kareoke there now, this public house has a conservation order on it as it has historical memoirs of The Beatles fame.
