Description
The Gate to nowhere has no steps or pathway and is never opened as its path and steps were washed away in the tragic floods of August 15th 1952 of the River Lyn and surrounding towns and villages were sucked into the sea 39 properties and 34 lives were lost including some campers from Manchester, a terrible tragedy and the gate was still standing and is left untouched as a memorial to those who died in the flood, it has been 60yrs since this disaster and there will be a memorial at Lynton Parish church were most of the 34 victims are buried, their names are usually read out during the ceremony that's held each year, yes Lynton Village in North Devon mourn each year on this terrible day at the height of summer and the holiday season, there is an eeriness within this photo that I unwittingly captured here of this gate that is never opened along the Cliff Path at Lynton in North Devon as a storm is approaching over the Channel, luckily it didn't hit Lynton or Lynmouth, but remained in the channel moving out over South Wales

Nice moody shot and a poignant history, remember reading about the Lynton tragedy as a youngster years after the event
