Description
Philip Berrill was an excellent art tutor and I attended his art classes in the 1980's he sat for this portrait During a portraiture excercise in one of his weekly classes, I did a sepia pastel with techniques he taught me and I'm thankful for his tuition as it improved my art immensely at the time as I was too busy bringing up a family and was a wee bit rusty and I really didn't know how to apply pastels. Philip taught watercolours mainly and through his classes I accomplished some excellent watercolour work. Philip became very popular with his simple approach to art tuition and easy to follow methods, he did painting holidays and also appeared on TV here in the UK and in different countries around the world, including Dubai, because of his travelling art tuition, he was known as the flying artist. Philip also wrote a number of art books that were very successful...he died fairly young only 63yrs April 29 2009 and is greatly missed in the art world, I am pleased with this portrait I seemed to have captured the very essence of him within his expression. It has been 6yrs since Philip was taken from us. I've put this sketch on here this week in his memory, as a fellow artist and September being the month of his birth on Sept 6th of which he would have been 70yrs on that date RIP Philip 😢
