Description
It was a hit in 1969 in the French language, the first hit in the English charts in a foreign language to get to no 1 and it was banned by the BBC because of explicate content, but it was only a couple singing and cooing to each other whilst walking along the boulevards of the Seinne and The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the girl being Jane Birkin wearing a long black double breasted coat with a huge collar and the man, the famous French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg dressed quite ordinary in coat and scarf...Jane's voice was beautiful and her breathing was a bit heavy, the interpretations of that were unfounded the words of the song contained nothing of offence it was how you interpreted it, some minds obviously took the darker view of it and being in French not many knew the meaning of it, I certainly didn't, here are the original words that were banned by the BBC I don't know what the controversy over kidneys was about, but it was a great sounding song and Jane looked fab in the video completely and fully dressed as described before not like the artists of today will all caution to the wind:
Je T'aime
Je t'aime je t'aime
Oh oui je t'aime
Moi non plus
Oh mon amour
Comme la vague irr'solu
Je vais, je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Et je me retiens
Je t'aime je t'aime
Oh oui je t'aime
Moi non plus
Oh mon amour
Tu es la vague, moi l'ile nue
Tu vas, tu vas et tu viens
Entre mes reins
Tu vas et tu viens
Entre mes reins
Et je te rejoins
Je t'aime je t'aime
Oh oui je t'aime
Moi non plus
Oh mon amour
L'amour physique est sans issue
Je vais je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Je vais et je viens
Je me retiens
Non, maintenant viens
It's just about being madly in love Je 'Taime meaning I love you and you're worth fighting for, and if you want to leave me you can do so? I hope you like my illustration, using my romantic flower photos, of this song and the retro style I used from that era actually it was no 1 in the charts the year I was engaged at Easter and married at the end of that year, so the song has a lot of meaning for me in more ways than you know
