Watermark

I have put some people's work on my pin interest boards, in help with promotions of work that I truly like, I will not accept any now that don't have FineArtAmerica watermark, somehow we are advised on here that to have the watermark inhibits sales, I completely disagree with that as it protects our work from copying but does inhibit viewers who want to copy your work and print it themselves, or claim it as their own work, this is what is happening on pin interest as downloading of pictures is allowed on the site, so to protect myself I will not put any work on my boards that do not have a watermark and if the copying is done it won't come back to me as the originator of that pin, there are some that I have already pinned on the board without the watermarks they can stay unless I think there is a threat to copying of their work then I will remove them, if we state very clearly in our profile about the watermarks not appearing in final print it won't inhibit genuine sales at all and protects us from illegal copying, FineArtAmerica also state this, but they do need to put that statement in a better and bigger format, my overall advice to all artists on FineArtAmerica is that they should put the watermark on all their work and I do think that the company should make it a compulsory procedure. I have discovered since writing this that downloads are automatically reduced in resolutions to protect the artists as FineArtAmerica is not a download site like some others, but that does not stop the copying, they still do it as most want the image as screen savers for their phones as that doesn't require large formats, there has also been a bit of a scandal over some people setting themselves up in business with these illegal downloads claiming them as their site pictures...so be careful when placing your work on pin interest and make sure your name is attached to the work, don't use alias user names as these are not legal when making a claim over someone stealing your work on the internet and using it for themselves or their business
